Date of Establishment: –January, 25th 2012

Brief History: –

History was however made when on January 25, 2012, at its 346th meeting, the Academic Board of the college, in response to a memo presented by the Head of Department, approved the upgrade of the Unit into an autonomous full-fledged academic department. The Department thus become the youngest (although with the broadest scope) academic department of the College.The officer in charge of the programme hitherto used to be known as COORDINATOR.  However, the Academic Board at the same 346th Meeting approved the change of title to HEAD OF DEPARTMENT in line with the subsisting practice in the college.

The General Studies Department existed in this new status for exactly six months before history came beckoning again.   On Wednesday, 20th June 2012, the Academic Board of the college at its 350th meeting gave unanimous approval to the upgrade of the general studies Programme of the college, Dr (Mrs) B. C. Ijioma, in a memo presented on the matter.  The approval was in compliance with the directive on-going restructuring of the colleges of Education by the National commission for colleges of Education (NCCE).  With the development, the school of General Studies (SGS) thus became the sixth academic faculty in the college.  MBO Ajileye, the immediate past Head of the Department of General Studies thus became the pioneer Dean of the School.  The Departments are:

  • Entrepreneurship Education.

THE VISION, MISSION of ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION:

  • VISION: The Department of Entrepreneurship envisions a model department in a Federal College of Education that is a leader in the production of creative and innovative Graduates well-equipped with all entrepreneurial skills necessary for self-sufficiency in a modern world.
  • MISSION: Our mission is to equip students with Entrepreneurial skills necessary for the production of the graduates who will be able to overcome the challenges of unemployment in a Developing Nation.
  • CORE MANDATE OF THE SCHOOL: The General Studies Programme is designed to expose students to a variety of knowledge across disciplines.  It is aimed at enabling students appreciate the inter-relationship among disciplines in an integrated world, which is fast becoming one big     Advances in Science and Technology are daily breaking down traditional boundaries in human knowledge and communication.The computer is also actively making obsolete the compartmentalization of human knowledge.  In a small way, General studies, therefore, offer the potential for bridging the gaps in human knowledge, thereby preparing the students to meet the challenges of the changing world adequately.
